ISE is leading the structural health assessment of the King Fahd Causeway (KFC)—a 25-kilometre bridge connecting Saudi Arabia and Bahrain. This critical infrastructure, built in 1986, consists of five bridges, seven embankments, and a border station. 

Since 2019, ISE has been part of an elite international consortium, working with the King Fahd Causeway Authority (KFCA) to assess the bridge’s integrity, life cycle, and durability in extreme environmental conditions such as tidal effects, seawater exposure, and high temperatures.Our ongoing work ensures the long-term safety and sustainability of this vital transportation link, supporting economic ties between the two nations.

Structural Assessment & Condition Analysis

The first 1 km crossing bridge underwent a comprehensive structural evaluation using aerial, underwater, and field inspections. ISE’s team assessed piles, piers, pier caps, rubber bearings, and box girders from multiple angles—including inspections inside the box girder, from the sea, and the air. By combining insights from all perspectives, our assessment provided critical conclusions on the bridge’s structural health and maintenance needs.

Comprehensive Structural Evaluation

The second 2.25 km crossing bridge underwent an extensive structural integrity assessment, leveraging aerial, underwater, and on-site inspections. ISE’s engineers examined piles, piers, pier caps, rubber bearings, and box girders, analysing both external and internal conditions through advanced multi-angle observation techniques. By integrating insights from inside the girders, sea-level inspections, and aerial observations, our assessment delivered crucial findings on structural health and long-term durability.

Spanning 5.5 km, the third crossing bridge underwent a rigorous structural evaluation using multi-angle observation techniques, including aerial, underwater, and on-site inspections. By combining insights from inside the girders, sea-level surveys, and aerial observations, ISE provided critical assessments on long-term stability, material durability, and maintenance strategies.
